Want to get started writing fiction but unsure where to begin? On Sunday, March 17, from 1 to 4 p.m., join Meg Wolitzer, The New York Times bestselling author of “The Interestings,” “The Uncoupling,” “The Ten-Year Nap,” “The Female Persuasion,” “The Position,” “The Wife” and “Sleepwalking,” at The Church for an introductory session on the act of getting started. In this three-hour workshop, “Jump Into Writing With Meg Wolitzer: Getting Started on That Novel or Short Story,” Wolitzer will guide participants through the early stages of the process including brainstorming, researching, developing characters, conflicts, outlining and more. Hosted in the library of The Church, this class will be a safe, supportive place to develop ideas and begin work on a novel or short story of your own.

This workshop has been programmed as part of Wolitzer’s 2024 residency at The Church. In addition to being author of many novels, Wolitzer was the guest editor of “The Best American Short Stories 2017,” and has also published short fiction and essays, as well as books for young readers. She is a faculty member in the MFA program at Stony Brook Southampton, where, along with novelist Susan Scarf Merrell, she co-founded and co-directs BookEnds, a one-year noncredit intensive in writing novels. Wolitzer is the host of the literary radio show and podcast “Selected Shorts.”

The cost of the workshop is $75 at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is at 48 Madison Street in Sag Harbor.
