The John Jermain Memorial Library (JJML) has announced the opening of the Kenny Mann papers, a recent acquisition to the Local History Room and Special Collections. Mann, a Sag Harbor resident, is a filmmaker, journalist, children’s author, playwright, educator, and activist, and on Saturday, November 9, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. she will take part in the first of JJML’s Afternoon at the Archives series.
Mann’s work ranges from a film about her childhood in Kenya and her participation in local Sag Harbor initiatives like Art ‘Round Town (A.R.T.), to her most recent venture of writing and directing “Naisula,” an epic poem about a white woman and her African servant that was staged in 2017 at Guild Hall.
The discussion with Mann will center on her papers, how she became involved in Sag Harbor in the 1980s, and what she is up to now. The event features rarely seen photographs and video, as well as audio broadcasts, allowing viewers a glimpse into her social and artistic community engagement over the past 32 years.
The program is free, but registration is required at bit.ly/kennymann or 631-725-0049.
