Multitude Of HIFF Films Up For Academy Awards

Thirty-three films screened at The Hamptons International Film Festival’s 20th Edition and SummerDocs Series will be vying for top honors at the 85th annual Academy Awards on February 24.

Those films nominated for Best Picture include “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Amour” and “Argo.” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Argo” have also been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing. “Argo” was also nominated for Best Music (Original Score), Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

“Amour” was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Feature. Other Best Foreign Feature nominees include “A Royal Affair,” “War Witch” and “Kon-Tiki.”

David O. Russell of “Silver Linings Playbook” and Michael Haneke of “Amour” were nominated for Best Director.

“Frankenweenie” was nominated for Best Animated Feature. “Head Over Heels” and “Paperman” were nominated for Best Short Film, Animated. “Asad” was nominated for Best Short Film, Live Action.

“Searching for Sugar Man” and “How to Survive A Plague,” both screened during the SummerDoc Series, were nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Best Documentary Shorts nominated included “Open Heart,” “Kings Point” and “Mondays at Racine.”

In the acting categories, Jennifer Lawrence of “Silver Linings Playbook” and Emmanuelle Riva of “Amour” were nominated for Best Actress and Bradley Cooper of “Silver Linings Playbook” was nominated for Best Actor. Helen Hunt of “The Sessions” and Jacki Weaver of “Silver Linings Playbook” were nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Robert De Niro of “Silver Linings Playbook” and Alan Arkin of “Argo” were nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
