Southampton Town Hall is the new permanent home of a nearly 10-foot-long painting of the Shinnecock Canal by the late Darragh Park, who was a local artist.

The oil painting now hangs in the hallway across from Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst’s office and the People’s Room on the second floor of Town Hall.

“It’s a nice spruce-up of our hallway there with local art and a local landscape,” Ms. Throne Holst said.

The painting depicts the canal on a sunny day, looking north from the Montauk Highway bridge.

The painting is one of more than 80 of Mr. Park’s paintings that were donated by the executors of his estate to public institutions and buildings around the country.

“This donation is right in line with what Darragh had in mind in finding homes for his art in places where it would make people happy,” said William Halter, the co-executor of Mr. Park’s estate. “So many public institutions, museums in particular, are limited by space and storage facilities. But Town Hall had this great wall space in the hallway.”

Mr. Park, who died in 2009, had lived in Bridgehampton. He made his living as an artist, primarily illustrating book covers, but he also painted landscapes and cityscapes in the style of another well-known local artist, Fairfield Porter.
