The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center has announced the election of three new members to its board of directors: Dr. Stanley Zinberg, Ms. Mary Skillern, and Mr. Robert Friemann.
Dr. Zinberg, a member of the New York Obstetrical Society, is a retired obstetrician and gynecologist who practiced for more than 27 years. He served as vice president for practice activities and deputy executive vice president for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Washington, D.C. A graduate of the SUNY Health Science Center College of Medicine, he received a master’s degree in public administration with an emphasis on not-for-profit finance from the Wagner School of Public Administration of New York University.
He is a member of the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine, Cornell University College of Medicine and Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Dr. Zinberg and his wife, Peggy, are full-time residents of Remsenburg. A passionate supporter and patron of the PAC for the past 10 years, Dr. Zinberg brings an impressive record of success and community service to the board. He served as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at New York Downtown Hospital, where he also served as president of the medical staff and a member of the board of trustees. He is the author of numerous articles and scientific papers in the field of women’s health care.
Mary Skillern, a former member of the Performing Arts Center’s Advisory Council, is an ardent supporter of the arts through her family foundation. She has participated on the boards of the Blue Light Theater Company in New York City, Egyptian Theater in Park City, Utah, Drama League of New York City, and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. As a past member of the Minnesota Orchestra board of directors, Ms. Skillern raised more money than had ever been raised at a single event, earning her a national award from the American Orchestra Association League.
A friend and supporter of talented artists, Ms. Skillern is known for having one of the most renowned private cabaret rooms in the country. The cabaret room, which has earned the nickname of the Skillern Salon, is venerated as the last place where Kitty Carlisle Hart sang and as a venue where Celeste Holm and Barbara Cook sing often.
Ms. Skillern and her husband, Frank, are residents of Manhattan and Southampton. For the past five years, both have been dedicated supporters of the PAC.
Robert F. Friemann has been a certified public accountant for his entire career. During his tenure with Albrecht Viggiano Zureck and Company P.C., he developed a specialty in services to not-for-profit entities, including private schools, public and private foundations, and various philanthropic organizations. Mr. Friemann was instrumental in new business development and expansion at the firm.
He has served on governance and fund-raising committees for organizations such as the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Diabetes Association, Leukemia Society, and Pancreatic Cancer Association.
Mr. Friemann and his wife, Pat, reside in Huntington Bay and spend a great deal of time at their second home in Cutchogue.
Board President Len Conway said of the recent elections, “It is an honor to welcome Mary, Stan and Bob; we are grateful for their willingness to serve. The center will benefit enormously from each person’s passion for the arts, love of community and proven success in helping to build and sustain a successful organization.”
