Parrish Art Museum Hosts Free Community Day On February 25

author on Feb 12, 2018

The Parrish Art Museum’s Family Month will culminate with a free Community Day on Sunday, February 25.

Community Day will offer art workshops, tours, refreshments and more at the museum in Water Mill—all at no cost.

“Community Day is an opportunity for members of the public—adults, children, and families—to experience all that the Parrish Art Museum has to offer year-round: engaging art exhibitions; creative and fun art workshops for children and adults. What is most important is the opportunity for all to engage with art, artists, and one another,” said Parrish Director Terrie Sultan. “We invite the entire community to join us and we especially look forward to welcoming anyone who has not yet visited the Parrish. The museum is here for everyone.”

Free admission will be offered during museum hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with activities scheduled between noon and 3 p.m. Ongoing workshops in the Lichtenstein Theater include collaborative mandala making and studio activities.

Parrish Art Museum docents will be on hand to lead mini “zip-tours” of the two exhibitions on view and families can explore the Parrish collection through a scavenger hunt. The 2018 Student Art Exhibition features work by more than 1,000 young artists from 33 eastern Long Island schools. “Five and Forward,” the new exhibition drawn from the museum’s collection of more than 3,000 works, takes a closer look at artists whose work represents major trends, themes, and concepts in American art history, and underscores the ongoing artistic legacy of Long Island’s East End, according to the Parrish.

Upcoming Family Month Friday programs include a performance and instrument-building workshop with Bash the Trash on February 16; a screening of the documentary “Landfill Harmonic,” about a group that plays instruments made of found objects, on February 23.; and a Collagraph Printmaking workshop led by Andrea Cole on March 2.
