Perlman Music Program Celebrates Its 30th Season

The Perlman Music Program celebrates its 30th season this summer in Shelter Island. Founded by Toby Perlman in 1994 — originally incorporated as the East Hampton Music Festival — the program has been based at its Shelter Island campus since 2000.

“When we started out, we were a true mom-and-pop organization running a two-week program on not much more than a dream,” Toby Perlman said. “Today, we offer a vibrant curriculum of programs from our Shelter Island oasis. All summer long, we provide individualized mentorship for exceptional young artists.

“Without the next generation of world-class musicians, the musical world and its audiences will be the poorer. More than anything, this prospect drives us to do what we do at PMP.”

The program’s summer offerings include the Chamber Music Workshop, a three-week residency for college-aged musicians, and the Summer Music School, a seven-week residency for musicians ages 12 to 18. Both programs include numerous public performances for East End audiences.

A full schedule of chamber music workshops are held throughout the summer at the PMP campus at 73 Shore Road on Shelter Island. The 2024 summer season will conclude in August with special concerts featuring performances by alumni of the Perlman Music Program in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
