The Montauk Library will present a special encore performance by the Tickleslap Trio on Sunday, October 19, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Suzanne Koch Gosman Community Room.

Featuring pianist Jane Hastay, bassist Peter Martin Weiss and violinist Dr. Bob Stern, the Tickleslap Trio is known for its stylish and soulful interpretations of modern jazz. The group blends upbeat, swinging rhythms with a relaxed, sophisticated sound that resonates with jazz fans of all ages.

Critics have praised the ensemble’s artistry. Jazz vocalist Etta Jones once said of Weiss and Hastay, “They got a thing goin’ on, a oneness.” Leslie Gourse of Jazz Now noted the pair’s “exquisite taste and timing, elegance and passion,” while Jazz Times lauded Weiss for his “rock-solid intonation.” Violinist Bob Stern has also received acclaim for his tone and improvisational skills, with CT Insider praising him as a virtuoso capable of sustaining notes “longer and purer than all but a handful of world-class violinists.”

Hastay, a graduate of Mills College and Manhattan School of Music, has performed internationally and across major New York venues including The Blue Note, Lenox Lounge and St. Peter’s Church. She has also served as an educator and choral director throughout the region and currently leads the music program at the First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton.

Weiss, a SUNY Oneonta and Manhattan School of Music graduate, studied under NY Philharmonic bassist Homer Mensch. He has performed with the Etta Jones/Houston Person Quintet and played alongside jazz luminaries including Nat Adderley, Frank Wess, and Randy Brecker. A former faculty member at SUNY New Paltz, Weiss now resides in East Hampton, where he performs and teaches.

Dr. Bob Stern, a former Montauk resident and accomplished jazz violinist, has played for over five decades in genres ranging from Baroque to jazz. He has toured internationally with the Gil Gutiérrez Trio and recorded with producers such as Arif Marden and artists including Laura Branigan and Joe Thomas. Stern is an alum of Haverford College and NYU College of Dentistry.

The concert is free and open to the public; registration is available via montauklibrary.org. Montauk Library is at 871 Montauk Highway in Montauk.
