Former lifelong East Hampton resident Alvin L. Bennett died on April 12 at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. He was 93.

Born April 11, 1915, in Springs, he was the son of Ruth (née Lester) and Reynolds Bennett. After attending Springs grade school and serving in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 during World War II, he returned home to work as a fisherman, carpenter and as a truck driver for East Hampton Town.

Mr. Bennett was also a member of American Legion Post 419 in Amagansett and the Veterans of Foreign Wars East Hampton Post.

Predeceased by his wife, Sarah L. (née Smith) Bennett, and a daughter, Leslie H. Bennett, he is survived by a son, Allen B. Bennett of Amagansett; ?two brothers, William and Stanley Bennett; three sisters, Coralie Gibbons, Elizabeth Havens and Lillian Anderson; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family received visitors on April 14 at Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton where American Legion and Veteran of Foreign War services were both conducted. A graveside service was held on April 15 at Green River Cemetery in Springs.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Amagansett Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 911, Amagansett, NY, 11930 would be appreciated by the family.
