Anson “Bo” Herrick
Anson Boulton Herrick Jr., a resident of East Hampton for 35 years, died in Southold, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, November 19, after a short illness.
Known as Bo, Mr. Herrick was raised in Englewood, New Jersey, and began spending summers in Amagansett in 1940. He and his wife, Mary Lou, moved to East Hampton full time in 1985 and to Southold just last year.
Mr. Herrick was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1958 to 1962. He then worked in the marine and auto industries, including the Peter Glennon dealership in Southampton, which became Southampton Buick Cadillac Inc., for 25 years.
After his retirement, Mr. Herrick was active with several organizations on the North Fork. At San Simeon by the Sound, a nursing home in Greenport, his horticultural talents are evident in the gardens. He was also a member of the board of Greenport’s East End Seaport Maritime Museum.
Mr. Herrick is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Lou Herrick (née Crandall); his mother, Ruth M. Herrick; two brothers, John D. Herrick and W. Lawrence Herrick; four children, Daniel Herrick, Christopher Herrick, Deborah Stapon and Leah Constantine; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Anson B. Herrick Sr. and a brother, Gilbert B. Herrick.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport, with a reception to follow at the East End Seaport Maritime Museum on Third Street also in Greenport.
