Claude E. Macomber
Claude E. Macomber of Speonk died at Peconic Bay Medical Center on Friday, December 16. He was 64.
Mr. Macomber was born on April 28, 1947, and grew up in East Hampton. He attended Westhampton Beach High School after his family moved to Westhampton. He worked as a residence manager of a condo complex for 14 years.
Mr. Macomber joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He earned several medals and honors, among them the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, for single-handedly saving the lives of nearly a dozen South Vietnamese citizens while under enemy fire.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Speonk; son, Edward and his wife Karen of Eastport; stepdaughter Lisa Roeper and husband Don of Virginia; and brother, Steven of East Moriches.
A funeral service was held at Calverton National Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, December 19.
