David William Franzetti, a resident of Montauk since 1974, died at home on December 31 due to complications from corticobasal syndrome, a rare neurological disease that he had been suffering from for the past two years. He was 55.

Born on May 17, 1953, in Huntington to Mary Malone and Edgar Franzetti, he grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey, where he graduated from Tenafly High School.

He attended Denver Automotive in Colorado and worked as an automotive painter from 1975 to 1982. In addition, he owned and operated the Four Oaks Deli and Motel & Cottages in Montauk alongside his wife, Nora (née Valcich) Franzetti, from 1982 to 2001. After that, he started his own home maintenance business.

According to family, he enjoyed outdoor sports, especially surfing, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition wife of 30 years, Nora, he is survived by his mother, Mary; two daughters, Catherine and Meghan Franzetti of Montauk; a brother, Peter Franzetti of California; a sister, Alice Apice of New Jersey; three nephews; and four nieces. His father, who suffered from a similar disease, predeceased him in 2003.

The family received visitors on January 2 at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral mass was held on January 3 at St. Theresa’s Church in Montauk. Cremation followed.

In lieu of flowers, donations to East End Hospice, PO Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 would be appreciated by the family.
