Lifelong East Hampton resident Ruth Lester Denton died on January 25 at Southampton Hospital. She was 71.
Born September 18, 1938, in Amagansett to Jennie (née Bennett) and Theodore Lester, she was a graduate of East Hampton High School. A homemaker, she was also a member of the Amagansett Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son, Dwane Denton of East Hampton; two sisters, Sally Lafoe and Gloria Willer, both of Florida; two granddaughters, Marlene and Shayla; a grandson, Daniel; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Denton; two sisters, Jennie Syvertsen and Lavinia Musniki; and a brother, Stewart Lester.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 28, at 11 a.m. at Amagansett Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Steve Howarth officiating. Interment will follow at Green River Cemetery in Springs. Arrangements were under the direction of Yardley & Pino Funeral Home.
