Marjorie Lou Otto
Marjorie Lou Otto of Amagansett died in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, on Wednesday, September 28. She was 81.
Ms. Otto was born February 10, 1930, in Queens to Louis Meny and Lillian Blakle Meny. On doctor’s orders that young Ms. Otto get fresh air to recover from pneumonia, her family bought a summer home in Point Lookout.
After graduating from Queens College with a teaching degree, her brother Howard introduced her to his good friend, Robert William Otto, in Point Lookout. In 1952 they married in Queens.
Ms. Otto taught English and speech in Huntington and at various schools on Long Island and was a member of the American Association of University Women that advances equity for women through advocacy, education and research. Later, she was a real estate broker for Lona Rubenstein and other local agencies.
Her family moved to Amagansett full time in 1982; eventually they started spending winters in Florida.
Ms. Otto loved reading mystery novels and played tennis nearly every day until she was 79. She was also interested in bridge and loved to swim, clam, and visit her favorite beaches in Amagansett.
She is survived by her children, Allison Heinen and her husband Peter of Florida, Lauren Rozsa and her husband Robert of Baiting Hollow, and Valerie Otto of Hauppauge. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert William Otto and her brothers, Robert and Howard Meny.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 8, at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
