Randers “Randy” Halvard Heimer of Wainscott and New York City died on November 4 at Southampton Hospital after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was 73.
He was a star athlete at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, where he was a quarterback of the football team, captain of the basketball team, and a pitcher for the baseball team. He also played baseball at Yale, which he attended from 1953 to 1956, before going on to graduate from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1957. His participation in sports continued throughout his life as a senior league squash player, avid golfer, tennis player and surfcaster. He was also a passionate dog lover.
He worked in the advertising business from 1957 to 1986 serving as an account executive and supervisor at Palmer, Wilson, Creamer Colarossi, Basford, and, finally, Benton & Bowles, where he supervised the Texaco account and worked with Bob Hope and Luciano Pavarotti. From 1987 to 1990, he sold real estate for Bill McCoy.
In addition to his wife of 37 years, Judith Nolte, he is survived by a sister, Nita Ireland and a niece, Randi Ireland, both of New York City and Greenport.
A private memorial service will be held on December 12 in New York City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Phillips Academy, 180 Main Street, Andover, MA 01810 would be appreciated by the family.
