Samuel Anderson Miles of East Hampton died on April 15 at Southampton Hospital. He was 54.
Born October 21, 1954, in Norfolk, Virginia, he served in the U.S. Army from 1973 until 1979, stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia. He toured Germany with Company A First Battalion and 6th Infantry and received the National Defense Service medal, Parachutist badge, Sharpshooter badge and Medal of Good Conduct.
In his later military career, he was stationed in St. Louis, Missouri, with the U.S. Army Reserve Control Group. He was honorably discharged on January 14, 1979.
After relocating to New York, he worked as a caretaker for Mr. and Mrs. Bolton in East Hampton for 23 years. Mr. and Mrs. Bolton and their children embraced him as a member of their extended family. He was not seen as just an employee of the family, but as an uncle to the children and a dear friend, family members said this week. During his 23 years with the Bolton family, he was also employed at 3-D Building in East Hampton for 17 years.
Survivors said this week that Mr. Miles will always be remembered for his warm smile, quiet disposition, kind nature and generosity.
He is survived by his life partner of 17 years, Rita Roberts of Hampton Bays; a son, Samuel Miles Jr. of Virginia, his wife and their children, Deja Miles, Deshawn Miles, Delair Miles, Dania Miles and Dalijah Miles; three sisters; and a host of friends, relatives and loved ones.
Funeral services, officiated by the Reverend Henry Faison Jr,, were held on April 22 at Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton.
