The much-anticipated Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Department is open as of Thursday, May 22.
The 22,000-square-foot facility will serve as an emergency room for those in East Hampton Town, including Amagansett, Montauk, Sag Harbor and Springs. The idea behind the project — which was funded through private donations and a $10 million state grant — is to provide care for those on the “farthest end” of the South Fork, the hospital said in a release.
The new emergency department, one of the handful of free-standing emergency departments in the state, will be open 365 days per year. Next to the emergency department is a non-emergency imaging center that is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
In the new emergency facility, there will be a dedicated resuscitation room, exam rooms with cardiac monitoring equipment, fast-track treatment rooms, two isolation rooms and an onsite ambulance. Aside from the medical equipment, the emergency department building is outfitted with solar panels and native plantings.
