Former East Hampton resident William Harrison DeBoard died on March 15 in Chicago, Illinois, after a brief bout with cancer.

Born in Southampton July 23, 1938, to Sam and Evelyn DeBoard, he was raised in East Hampton and graduated from East Hampton High School. He studied art at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1979, he moved to Chicago and was employed as a carpenter and cabinetmaker at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for 23 years.

Mr. DeBoard had a zest for life, survivors said, which was embodied in his coaching of many sports, including the bowling team at Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (née Arterbery) DeBoard of Chicago; three daughters, Serena DeBoard and Ramona DeBoard, both of Maryland, and Dawn DeBoard of Chicago; a sister, Sandra Vorpahl of East Hampton; two brothers, Daniel DeBoard of East Hampton and LeRoy DeBoard of Patchogue and Florida; seven grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Samuel DeBoard.

Funeral services were held on March 19 in Illinois. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall in Amagansett.
