William M. Havlik, a resident of Montauk for more than 35 years, died on July 19 of heart failure at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. He was 86.
Born in Floral Park on March 6, 1922, to William and May (née Heitmanich) Havlik, he lived there most of his life, working as a maintenance man at the Belmont Park Race Track in Elmont. He served in World War II, and was held as a prisoner of war.
Predeceased by his wife, Ruth (née Hamill) Havlik, he is survived by two sons, Jeff and Thomas Havlik, both of Montauk; a brother, Joseph Havlik; three sisters, Rose Zeixer, Margaret Campagne and Veronica Gibbons, all of Florida; a grandson, Patrick; and two granddaughters, Kimberly and Emily.
Services were held on July 22 at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. Cremation followed.
