William McFarland Sr.

William McFarland Sr. died at his home in East Hampton on December 22. He was 54.

Born on April 12, 1956, to Richard McFarland, who predeceased him, and Nellie Greene in Southampton, he was known affectionately as “Boobie” and attended East Hampton schools, graduating in 1975. Family recalled that Mr. McFarland was always happy and loved to share his gift of jokes and laughter with everyone he met. He married Dolores King of East Hampton and the couple had three children.

Mr. McFarland worked for the Town of East Hampton recreation department for many years and Claws On Wheels catering before becoming ill. According to survivors, he loved to cook for family and friends and was famous for his BBQ pig roasts. He also enjoyed fishing, which he did every chance he could. They added that he loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren and was looking forward to the birth of another grandchild.

Mr. McFarland is survived by his mother, Nellie Greene; three brothers, Calvin Sr. and his wife Marilyn, Thomas and John; three sisters, Francis, Patricia and Linda; a sister-in-law Gloria McFarland; three children, William Jr., Richard and Melissa; and three grandchildren, Jalen, Christian and Shawnie, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his eldest brother, Randy, and nephew, Calvin “Man-Man” McFarland Jr.

The family received friends 
and a funeral service was held on December 31, 2010, at the 
Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton; the Reverend Earl Hopson officiated. Cremation followed.
