Folkie Fest hits the road and returns for the third consecutive year to Moriches Field Brewing Company (located at 1 Wilcox Ave, Center Moriches, NY) since it has been so successful. Bring your favorite chair (there is seating but never hurts to have your own as it fills up quickly). There is another incredible lineup scheduled to perform. This year has been a banner year for stellar performers and performances at Folkie Fest – and this lineup is sure to keep up the momentum. Joining us for this event: Robert Bruey, Kathy Patterson, Leah Kay, and new to our stage, we welcome Dave March and Ray Lambiase. Working on confirming one more artist… stay tuned!!
Singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Robert Bruey grew up in rural New England and lives on Long Island’s North Fork. His roots and how they have helped to shape him are reflected in the original music on his last CD, ‘Carousel’ and are even more evident during a live performance. Robert Bruey’s music is honest and real, raw and meaningful, gritty and naturalistic. His unique finger-picking style -- with notes carefully left alone to be heard in the moment -- provides a perfect complement for his earthy, soulful voice and the meaningful, introspective lyrics of his songs. Robert paints with words, imbuing his songs with imagery that enables listeners to visualize his stories as he sings them.
Kathy Patterson is a local singer/guitarist playing pubs and restaurants on Long Island in single, duet and trio acts. She has worked with many different styles and genres, on several stringed instruments including guitar, banjo, and mandolin. She’s performed specialty acts at benefits and tribute shows, fronted a traditional Celtic band, and also sat in with a bluegrass band on banjo when living in the upstate NY area. Primarily a singer and guitar player, Kathy performs acoustic versions of pop, folk, rock and Irish tunes, as well as some of her own original works. Come out and see her play- a born entertainer.
Leah Kay, this musician from Long Island's South Shore has been captivating audiences with her unique blend of interesting melodies and soulful vocals for nearly a decade. As a singer-songwriter, she has graced numerous venues across Long Island, showcasing her talent and passion for music. With a sweet and soulful vocal style, this artist continues to enchant listeners with her captivating performances
Dave March is a local singer/songwriter, bass player, and a founding member of critically acclaimed folk rock ensemble Miles to Dayton as well as a member of Cassandra House’s full band. His influences include Johnny Cash, Ray Lamontagne, John Lennon to name a few. Dave has shared the stage with artists such as Jen Chapin, Tom Paxton, Richie Havens and Levon Helm's Dirt Farmer Band.
Ray Lambiase has recently released his fifth full length CD, The Road Ahead. His songwriting has been rewarded with two publishing contracts over the years. He has performed in support of Steve Forbert, Suzanne Vega, Eric Andersen, Marshall Crenshaw and many more. Lanny Sichel, as a member of King Penguin, released a number of recordings on Fruit DeMar Records. Ray has been performing with Lanny on lead guitar and backing vocals steadily for the past eleven years. Together they have recently contributed a cover of Bob Dylan’s It Ain’t Me Babe for the Paradidle Records most recent Uncovered Bob Dylan Vol. 4 release. They will be performing at the Port Jefferson Summer Series in Harborside Park on August 28th before touring upstate in September, playing most notably at the Russell Theater and Paul Smith’s College.
Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space and support live, local, singer/songwriters sharing their original work. A 50/50 raffle is held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
