Sylvester Manor Educational Farm and the Eastville Community Historical Society will partner for their 3rd annual Black History Month event at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, on Sunday, February 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Titled “At Our Table: Sharing Diversity, Traditions and Culture Through Food,” the event will feature panelists discussing food traditions from their cultures. The panel includes colonial food historian Diane Fish, Shinnecock Indian Nation member Josephine Smith and representatives from Organización Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island. Dr. Georgette Grier-Key, the executive director of the Eastville Community Historical Society, will moderate the discussion, which will be followed by a reception with a sampling of cultural dishes. Chef Jason Weiner of Almond in Bridgehampton is partnering with Montauk’s chef Jeremy Bluestein of East by Northeast and Montauk Brewing Company to host the inaugural Whole Animal/Cured, Pickled Fermented and Preserved Things Beer Dinner.
The Wednesday, March 1, dinner beginning at 7 p.m. at Almond will feature a five-course tasting menu created with locally sourced ingredients and will highlight “old-school technique,” paired with Montauk Brewing Company beers. Hampton Coffee Company is now serving dinner at its café in Water Mill, which recently added a copper and black granite bar.
Also among the new additions are a dessert menu, local craft beer on tap and a wine list featuring local vintages.
The café will remain open through 9 p.m. serving chargrilled burgers, salads and a Mexican grill menu. Plus, the breakfast menu will be served all day.
The Amagansett Food Institute is planning an open house at South Fork Kitchens, a business incubator and commercial kitchen for food entrepreneurs at Stony Brook Southampton, on Wednesday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The open house will give farmers and producers the opportunity to meet the kitchen staff and speak with current and former kitchen members, including Laura O’Brien of Josephine’s Feast! and Luchi Masliah of Goodfood and Gula Gula Empanadas. Email info@amagansettfoodinstitute.org to register.
