Blutstein Heads Back To Montauk
In recent years, Chef Jeremy Blutstein could be found cooking up a storm at Almond Restaurant in Bridgehampton. But now, he’s heading east to Montauk where he will assume the position of executive chef at the new Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina (formerly known as Montauk Yacht Club).
This is Gurney’s second property in Montauk, the first, of course, being its well-known flagship property overlooking the ocean on Old Montauk Highway. Montauk is familiar terrain to Mr. Blutstein who formerly worked at the Crow’s Nest and the now closed East by Northeast.
Plans call for the restaurant, which will seat 180, to be open sometime this spring. Expect breakfast, lunch and dinner and with this being Montauk, a nice selection of local seafood, naturally.
Jason Weiner Cooks At The James Beard House
Also on the topics of Almond Restaurant, that eatery’s executive chef Jason Weiner will be cooking up a storm at the James Beard House in Manhattan on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.
His “Smart Catch: Spring Seafood Splash” will feature a seafood centric menu paired with wines at each course. Mr. Weiner is partnering with several Long Island fishermen and farmers and the first course alone features fried Long Island oysters, porgy tartare, cured Amber Waves duck yolks, a monkfish pate with Mecox Bay yogurt and deviled eggs from Quail Hill served with swordfish bacon.
It doesn’t get much more local than that.
Tickets to the dinner are $180 at jamesbeard.org or 212-627-2308. The James Beard House is located at 167 West 12th Street in Manhattan.
