Not that anyone would need an excuse to visit LongHouse Reserve in May, when weather, plantings and sculpture conspire to do everything but crook a finger and whisper, “Come hither” ...
But if looking up at the sky from inside Buckminster Fuller’s “Fly’s Eye Dome” or peering across Peter’s Pond through Dale Chihuly’s shooting glass “Blue Spears,” or ambling through gardens and dunelands and arbors at near-peak isn’t enough, there will be a new reason to visit starting on Saturday, May 17, when an “explosion of outdoor furnishings” goes off in nine distinct outdoor “rooms” at the 16-acre East Hampton reserve.
“Exteriors,” as the exhibit is called, will offer inspiration for furnishing outdoor living spaces—with pieces like benches, tables and seats that double as sculpture and come from designers in countries around the world.
“Exteriors” has a roster of contributors too long to list, but Design Within Reach, Silas Marder, Colin Selig, Sunbrella, Johnny Swing, Tiffany & Tiffany Designers, Nico Yektai and Jack Lenor Larsen, LongHouse’s director, are among them. The largest in LongHouse’s history, the exhibit was curated by Wendy Van Deusen along with Mr. Larsen, Sherri Donghia and Elizabeth Lear.
