For 10 months, Forbes scoured the country for the best residential firms in the United States, broken down by state — an expansion of its Top 200 Residential Architects list for the very first time.

The grand total was 400 firms from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, and two East End practices made the cut. The first is Bates + Masi Architects in East Hampton.

“We are honored to be included in the Forbes 2025 Best-In-State Residential Architects List,” partner Paul Masi said, “continuing the tradition of good design since the firm’s start in 1965, working with generations of builders and clients.”

After drilling into specific circumstances, such as cultural, social, economic, political, lifestyle and more that shape the markets for custom single-family homes in each state, the second selection on the East End is BMA Architects in Bridgehampton.

“This recognition reflects our team’s passion and dedication to creating legacy projects designed to last for generations,” founder and partner Blaze Makoid said. “Thank you to our clients and partners who inspire our work every day.”
