Sotheby’s International Realty

Sotheby’s International Realty recently joined Wally Glennon, an agent with the firm’s Southampton office, to sponsor Southampton Squash in its annual squash tournament, held from August 11 to 14 at the Elmaleh Stanton Squash Center in Southampton.

The tournament featured top-ranked players from 18 countries competing in five adult and junior tournaments, including the fifth annual Sotheby’s Junior Silver Open, an event that attracts young players from across the country in addition to the local area. Sotheby’s International Realty, which has sponsored the tournament each year since 2007, contributed $2,000 this year.

Mr. Glennon founded Southampton Squash in 2007 as the East End’s first public squash facility. Open seven days a week, the center features four international squash singles courts and one hardball doubles court, and offers lessons, clinics and weekly round robins for those interested in learning the game or picking up a match.

In addition, the center offers an after-school program designed to raise interest in the sport among local youth. Mr. Glennon has also helped Southampton Squash to raise $150,000 toward the opening of a second after-school program this fall that will make the sport more accessible to local at-risk children as well as provide mentorship to help them achieve healthy lifestyle choices and improved academic performance.

To reach Mr. Glennon, call 283-0600 or email him at Walter.Glennon@sothebyshomes.com.

Corcoran Group

The Corcoran Group held an “East Meets West” gathering on Meadow Lane in Southampton on August 18.

This inaugural event, hosted by Corcoran CEO Pamela Liebman, was organized to celebrate and build upon the professional dialogue and cooperation between Corcoran agents in New York City and Long Island’s East End. More than 100 agents attended the event, which was co-hosted by Rick Hoffman, Corcoran’s regional senior vice president for the East End.

Town & Country

Agent Richard Swift, of Town & Country East Hampton, and Nelson Foran, a retired advertising executive, were married in East Hampton on Friday, August 19.

The wedding ceremony also served as a day of celebration for Mr. Foran’s 80th birthday. The couple will celebrate their 30th anniversary together this November. They were joined in marriage by East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana in a ceremony in her private chambers.

Following the ceremony, the wedding party dined at the American Hotel. A wedding celebration reception will be held at a friend’s townhouse in New York City in September.

Reach Mr. Swift at 324-8080.

Hamptons Rental Market Remains Alive and Well

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the demise of the Hamptons summer-rental market are greatly exaggerated. “Any hint that the Hamptons rental market is anything but robust is completely wrong,” said Corcoran associate broker Gary DePersia in East Hampton. An interesting dynamic is stirring in the Hamptons vacation-rental market. Although there has been an unprecedented rise in short-term rentals and the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic linger, it has been a bumper crop year for Wall Street, interest rates have remained steady and a new breed of demanding customer is emerging. Despite it all, the Hamptons vacation-rental market remains as ... 19 Jun 2025 by Joseph Finora
