British Royalty In The Hamptons This Summer?

Will British royalty be gracing the shores of the Hamptons this summer?

No—no, they will not.

Despite flashy reporting by tabloid magazine OK! that Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, are planning to vacation on the East End with their two children by July, it appears to be an unfounded rumor. Celebrity gossip sites, including GossipCop.com and CelebrityDirtyLaundry.com, quickly debunked the story—and local real estate brokers also confirmed the fiction.

The story made the cover of the national magazine with a photo of the supposed house the royal family would be moving into, which happens to be a home on Two Mile Hollow Road in East Hampton that is listed with several brokerages.

“It’s not true,” said Harald Grant, with Sotheby’s, one of the brokers listing the property. “People love to speculate.”

Mr. Grant said he had received several inquiries about the gossip today but noted that the house is right next to a parking lot, which would likely be considered a security liability for royalty.

Douglas Elliman broker Raymond Smith, who is sharing the listing, said he was unaware that the house had made the cover of the magazine until it was brought to his attention by The Press. “No, they’re not renting it,” he said.

The eight-bedroom, 9.5-bath house, which is near Steven Spielberg’s manse, is on the market for $39.88 million and is, indeed, available as a rental for $1.2 million from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Hamptons Rental Market Remains Alive and Well

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the demise of the Hamptons summer-rental market are greatly exaggerated. “Any hint that the Hamptons rental market is anything but robust is completely wrong,” said Corcoran associate broker Gary DePersia in East Hampton. An interesting dynamic is stirring in the Hamptons vacation-rental market. Although there has been an unprecedented rise in short-term rentals and the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic linger, it has been a bumper crop year for Wall Street, interest rates have remained steady and a new breed of demanding customer is emerging. Despite it all, the Hamptons vacation-rental market remains as ... 19 Jun 2025 by Joseph Finora
