House: Main Street at Mashashimuet

authorMichelle Trauring on Jan 2, 2019

When Jessica von Hagn first visited 431 Main Street in Sag Harbor, she was taken aback. For a traditional village home, its proportions were unexpected — to say the least, she said.

“Its large size, high ceilings and spacious lot give it a very impactful impression,” the listing agent said. “Although a traditional, timeless design from the exterior, the interior has modern proportions and details, and is flooded with light, which is often not the case in older Sag Harbor houses. The floor plan of the house is perfect for entertaining because each of the public areas flow one into the other.”

The new 5,400-square-foot build, listed for nearly $2.7 million with Brown Harris Stevens, sits on .45 acres that backs up to Mashashimuet Park, giving the yard a vast and open feel, she said.

“Although brand new and turn key, there is still so much potential — a large unfinished basement with multiple egress windows, a fully cleared yard with a new gunite pool and pool house, setting the groundwork for something special,” she said, adding, “The home will appeal to a large audience. A family will love the space, with access to the park literally in your backyard. A couple starting out, or downsizing, will love its low-maintenance new construction. There’s room to grow or continue to enjoy the already large spaces as is.”

Complete with four en suite bedrooms, an expansive kitchen, family room, separate dining and living rooms, and a screened porch on the first floor, there is plenty of room for entertaining, with abundant light, high ceilings and graceful proportions, according to the listing.

“It’s designed by Erik Ajemian, an architect trained at University of Virginia and Harvard to master the fundamentals of classic architecture while keeping it one step ahead of today,” listing agent William Crosby Renwick said. “That’s why this house will last more than 100 years and never go out of style.”

Hamptons Rental Market Remains Alive and Well

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the demise of the Hamptons summer-rental market are greatly exaggerated. “Any hint that the Hamptons rental market is anything but robust is completely wrong,” said Corcoran associate broker Gary DePersia in East Hampton. An interesting dynamic is stirring in the Hamptons vacation-rental market. Although there has been an unprecedented rise in short-term rentals and the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic linger, it has been a bumper crop year for Wall Street, interest rates have remained steady and a new breed of demanding customer is emerging. Despite it all, the Hamptons vacation-rental market remains as ... 19 Jun 2025 by Joseph Finora
