Plenty Of Real Estate Action In East Hampton Village

We have very few details, but there has just been a couple of interesting and connected transactions in the Village of East Hampton. For $13.5 million, a limited liability company is the new owner of 57 Dunemere Lane, near the Maidstone Club. The 1.89-acre property contains a single-family residence. And 59 Dunemere Lane, on 0.61 acre, has been sold—also to an LLC—for $4.5 million.

The connection is Nina Walker Wainwright, who passed away at 57 Dunemere this past February at age 88. Her late husband, a descendant of Peter Stuyvesant, was Carroll Livingston Wainwright. The two married in 1948 and lived an aristocratic life, which included summers and weekends, and eventually full-time, in East Hampton. Among other endeavors, Nina Wainwright was active with the Boys Club of New York, Colony Club, Garden Club of East Hampton and the Volunteer Organization of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

These two transactions were by far not the only ones of note recently in East Hampton. James Danella, the head of the construction and rental equipment firm Danella Companies, has purchased 49 LaForest Lane for an even $10 million. The 7,500-square-foot manse on 1.14 acres has a total of 23 rooms, and is located across from Georgica Pond. The spacious living room and dining room both open to the outside dining terrace and provide areas to gather friends and family. The oversized chef’s kitchen includes subzero freezer drawers and two Miele dishwashers, as well as two Viking refrigerators, two wall ovens, a wine refrigerator and range. (That’s a lot of Vikings crowded in there!) The 30-foot-long family room is an ideal relaxing and entertaining space with two sitting areas, a pool table and a fireplace. The main floor is completed by the master bedroom suite with an office area, a walk-in closet and a white marble bathroom. Three staircases lead to the second floor, which was configured for privacy with spacious hallways and multiple sitting areas. The seven large bedrooms and six bathrooms ensure elegant living for family and guests. A finished lower level has an expansive media room and a gym, which includes a ping-pong table. Let’s not forget the 4,000-bottle wine cellar, too. The 50-foot swimming pool with a spa is surrounded by an expansive terrace. The outdoor bar has a refrigerator, an ice maker, and a “kegerator.”

Another big sale, to Diane and Edward Curland, who plunked down just more than $7 million, was 20 Baiting Hollow Road. On 1 acre, the 7,800-square-foot residence has seven bedrooms and 8.5 baths. “Large, light modern open spaces highlight the interior of this classic shingled beauty,” wrote the Corcoran Group, which was the listing brokerage. There are three fireplaces, a laundry room on both the lower level and second floor, and a spacious open kitchen with custom cabinetry with top-of-the-line appliances and high-end finishes, The lower level offers high ceilings, a gym, a wine cellar and a media room. The extensively landscaped grounds feature an in-ground pool, a spa, a pool house, an outdoor fireplace, a shower and a two-car garage.

Another LLC is the new owner of 209 Further Lane. The 1.31-acre property with a 5,205-square-foot house, including five bedrooms and 5.5 baths, sold for $5.95 million. The traditional home features light-filled, airy principal living areas with high-beamed cathedral ceilings and multiple glass doors opening to bluestone patio areas and beautifully landscaped grounds. Entering from the double height foyer leads to the spacious great room with fireplace. A windowed gallery flows to the eat-in kitchen and formal dining room. At the opposite end of the first floor is the master suite with beamed cathedral ceiling, and a bath with two vanities, a makeup table and sitting area. Upstairs are two additional bedroom suites and another staircase to a private guest suite. Outside, the bluestone patio extends across the rear of the home with space for dining and relaxation, which overlook the serene private grounds complete with majestic trees and evergreens, and broad, verdant lawns. There is a pool, and the pool house currently accommodates a gym.

Hamptons Rental Market Remains Alive and Well

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the demise of the Hamptons summer-rental market are greatly exaggerated. “Any hint that the Hamptons rental market is anything but robust is completely wrong,” said Corcoran associate broker Gary DePersia in East Hampton. An interesting dynamic is stirring in the Hamptons vacation-rental market. Although there has been an unprecedented rise in short-term rentals and the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic linger, it has been a bumper crop year for Wall Street, interest rates have remained steady and a new breed of demanding customer is emerging. Despite it all, the Hamptons vacation-rental market remains as ... 19 Jun 2025 by Joseph Finora
