UPDATE: Road Reopened After Car Knocks Down Pole In East Hampton Friday

UPDATE: 2:20 P.M.

According to Elizabeth Flagler, media relations specialist for PSEG Long Island, about 800 customers lost power for approximately 10 minutes when the pole was knocked down. According to East Hampton Village Police, the eastbound lane was reopened as of 3:00 p.m.

UPDATE: 11:32 A.M.

The female driver of the car was taken to Southampton Hospital via ambulance to be treated for minor injuries, according to East Hampton Village Police Lieutenant Anthony Long.

There were no passengers in the car and no other cars were involved.

Police received the 911 call at approximately 10:19 a.m. and arrived at the scene of the accident at approximately 10:30 a.m., Lt. Long said.

The section of the eastbound lane of Montauk Highway where the accident occurred remained closed as police continued at await PSEG crews to arrive and remove the utility wire from the scene.

Eastbound traffic was directed around the accident on Montauk Highway, while westbound traffic was diverted to Green Hollow Road as a detour.

ORIGINAL STORY

A car struck a utility pole on Montauk Highway in East Hampton at about 10 a.m. on Friday, forcing traffic to be diverted onto side streets.

The westbound lanes of the highway were re-opened about 10:45 a.m., but the eastbound lanes were expected to remain closed until PSEG crews could restore damaged utility wires.

The accident took place near the intersection of Route 27 and Green Hollow Road.

Eastbound traffic was being diverted onto Stephen Hands Path.
