Longtime Southampton resident Angelina C. Wilcox died at her home on September 22, of cancer. She was 80.
“Ann” as she was affectionately known, was born in Brooklyn on December 14, 1927, to Rosalee and Mario Caldaera. She married Charles Gatto in Brooklyn in October 1948; the two divorced in May of 1970. Almost two years later, in February of 1972, she married Richard Wilcox, the camp director at Camp Integrity at Bayberry Land and the director of Bayberry Land.
She worked as a receptionist for Knapp Engraving in New York City before working for the Boy Scouts of America for six years. Upon moving to Southampton, she served as the executive assistant to her husband at Camp Integrity until his death in 1988. She then worked as the office manager for Dr. Nathaniel Bronson until her retirement.
A longtime volunteer for the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, she was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Michelangelo Lodge of the Sons of Italy, for which she ran a bus tour to Atlantic City once a month for more than 15 years.
She is survived by two sons, Donn Gatto and his wife Bridget of Iowa, and Mark Gatto of Lynnbrook; two stepchildren, Bob Wilcox and his wife Shirlene of Connecticut, and Cathy and her husband David Madairy of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Gregory, Jonathan, Mark Jr., James, Alexandria, Michelle, Abigail and David; and six great-grandchildren: Julia, Morgan, John, Madison, Taylor and Sarah Theresa.
Visitation with a parish prayer service was on September 25 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral mass was held on September 26 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church in Southampton; interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
