Barbara Reynolds Elliott of Southampton and Palm Beach, Florida, died on August 31 in Southampton, surrounded by family and friends.

Born on December 4, 1933, in Riverdale, New York, to John J. Reynolds and Kathryn Downer Reynolds, Ms. Elliot lived a full and wonderful life, recalled survivors, that was made beautiful by her humor, creativity, generosity, friendship, and her love for her family and friends.

She had a zest for life that made everyone want to be around her, they said, and she leaves a legacy of love and friendship.

Ms. Elliot was a graduate of Marymount Academy in Tarrytown and Immaculata College in Washington, D.C.

An accomplished interior designer, she drew great satisfaction from transforming people’s homes through the application of her unique perspective.

In 1959, she was married to John J. Sughrue Jr. at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. They lived in New York City for many years with their children, Babette, John, and Clifford, and spent summers in Southampton and East Hampton. Mrs. Elliott and her children also lived in Millbrook, New York, and later in Key Biscayne, Florida.

She married Walter J. Elliott in 1986 and lived in Palm Beach in the winter and Southampton in summer.

She is survived by her husband, Walter J. Elliott; her children, Babette Sughrue Virelli of West Palm Beach, John J. Sughrue III of Stratton, Vermont, and Clifford R. Sughrue of Miami Beach; a sister, Margot R. Prendergast of Manhattan; two brothers, Michael J. Reynolds of Tarrytown and Christopher Reynolds of Lakeville, Connecticut; and a sister-in-law, Betsy von Furstenberg Reynolds of Manhattan. She was predeceased by a brother, John J. Reynolds of Manhattan, in 1994.

The family has invited close friends to join them in a celebration of Mrs. Elliot’s life on Thursday, September 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southampton Club, 10 First Neck Lane. There will be a funeral mass and reception in Palm Beach at a later date.
