Blossom Custer Gluck died on December 12, 2019, at her home in Water Mill. She was 83.
Born in Brooklyn to Mildred and Jack Custer, she was an active Parrish Art Museum docent and volunteer for more than 20 years. She and her husband, Martin, became Parrish members in 1997, and soon after joined the docent program. She was one of just three docents who served at the old Jobs Lane site and made the transition to the new Water Mill location. As an experienced docent, she helped lead a group of more than 60 new recruits as they prepared to give tours in the expanded museum. Since 2015, she served as co-chair of the Docent Advisory Committee and, in that role, advocated for the program and spearheaded activities that helped create a sense of community among the docents, such as trips to regional museums, training activities and social events. She was responsible for introducing the iPad as a docent accouterment to help guests interact more fully with the art. She was a steadfast supporter of the museum, its mission and its people. During the final weeks of her life, she planned the docent holiday party, which was ultimately dedicated in her honor on December 13; a fitting occasion to remember a dear, loyal friend and leader.
Mrs. Gluck enjoyed family, art, and travel and was an avid bridge player and golfer.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Martin Gluck, in 2013. She is survived by her children, Brian and Brad, her daughters-in-law, Robbi and Karen; and grandchildren, Lauren, Melissa, Jackie and Elizabeth.
A funeral was held at Star of David Memorial Chapel in West Babylon on December 13.
