Boris Jourawleff of Manorville died on Wednesday, December 24. He was 43.
A professional violin player, Mr. Jourawleff founded the Hampton Chamber Orchestra with his wife, Francesca. Both he and his wife were members of the Choral Society of the Moriches; the couple met while both were playing violin for another choir and orchestra, the Babylon Chorale.
A 1983 graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with legendary violinist Raphael Bronstein, he earned a reputation on Long Island as being one of the region’s elite performers. According to those who knew and worked with him, he was not only an impressive musician, but was equally as impressive as a person. He was also known as a man who led by example, who could articulate important concerns in a soft-spoken manner, and treated every musician with dignity and respect.
His vision for the Hampton Chamber Orchestra was to bring a high level ensemble made up of outstanding Long Island musicians to the East End, in the tradition of the Orpheus ensemble of New York City.
In addition to his wife, Francesca, he is survived by a son, Nicholas; and a daughter, Marina.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a college fund established for the Jourawleff children sent to Francesca Jourawleff, c/o Victoria Manjarrez, 40 Manorview Way, Manorville, NY 11949, would be appreciated by the family.
