Suffolk Federal’s Eastport Branch Supports Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck

In an effort to support the charitable work of local organizations that serve the areas of Suffolk Federal branch locations, the credit union has identified nonprofit organizations to provide financial support to. In Eastport, Assistant Vice President of Retail Member Experience Micah Schlendorf presented a $1,000 contribution to Camp-Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches.

“Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck helps make the dreams of individuals with disabilities a reality,” said Mr. Schlendorf. “They are a true gem in our community helping individuals enjoy the beauty of the camp such as boating, arts and crafts, music and swimming during the summer. When we heard they were in need of raising funds for their swimming pool, we knew this was the best way Suffolk Federal could help support them.”

“The generous support that Suffolk Federal has provided makes it possible for us to continue to keep our camp a place where ‘summer is for everyone’,” said Alyssa Pecorino, director of Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck. “We rely on donations to support our operations, scholarships for needy campers and the necessary upgrades and repairs. This donation will help towards our new swimming pool and create some very happy campers.”

CMEE and Tenet Celebrate Mother’s Day With A Virtual Shopping

The Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) in Bridgehampton has partnered with Tenet on a special Mother’s Day shopping event that will support the museum’s efforts to support its community during the COVID-19 virus outbreak

Through May 10, online shoppers can select from a curated list of gifts on tenetshop.com with 20 percent of the proceeds benefiting CMEE’s COVID-19 response efforts.

“The COVID-19 crisis has brought out the best in our community,” said Steve Long, the Museum’s president. “I’m grateful to the Tenet team for putting together this special CMEE Mothers Day section and for their support of the vital work we’re doing supporting families at this time.”

Gifts range in price from $8 to $800 and include both apothecary and fashion picks from brands ranging from Aesop Skincare to Isabel Marant Ready to Wear and Golden Goose Footwear. Local delivery in time for Mother’s Day is also available.

“We are pleased to collaborate with the Children’s Museum of the East End. Not only will we fundraise to help the Museum offer positive programs to families and children during the COVID-19 crisis, we also offer a great selection of products to support our small business and our team of local employees,” Tenet founder Jesse Warren said. “Our team has been working remotely from home and as a result, we were able to keep almost all of our employees working despite being a non-essential business.”

Hampton Coffee Announces It Will Reopen Cafes

Hampton Coffee Company announced late last week it would reopen cafes in Water Mill and Westhampton Beach last Saturday, with the remaining three cafes expected to also reopen this week.

According to a letter sent to customers by Coffee Company owners Jason and Theresa Belkin, since closing a month and a half ago, the company has looked at how it could restructure itself into a “To-Go” food establishment for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“You can be assured that our staff members are healthy and are having their temperatures checked before every shift,” the Belkins wrote in their letter. “We will be wearing gloves and masks at all times. We will be disinfecting often-touched surfaces like door knobs and milk pitchers often. Of course, we are following strict food safety measures like we always have.”

The cafes will also follow social distancing guidelines and limit the number of people allowed in the cafes at one time, according to the press release. Delivery is also available as are online orders via hamptoncoffeecompany.com. The coupon code, STAYHOME, offers a $8.50 credit towards shipping costs and full curbside pickup is also available at the Water Mille café.

Under Siege

Our Sag Harbor park tennis courts are under siege. There are eight clay courts and two hard courts. Information was just given at the start of the season that the hard courts will be given over to pickleball, as they were last season, but will be resurfaced and used only for pickleball — not to be shared for tennis, also. Two of the now eight clay courts, on the upper level, are to be paved this summer, I was told, so that the high school teams can use hard courts for practice in fall and spring. Not the Best Day

So, the person who concocted the recent traffic experiment says it was “the best day yet” [“After Southampton Traffic Experiment Victory Lap, Talk Turns to Long-Term Possibilities,” 27east.com, May 7]. Obviously he didn’t drive anywhere between 3 and 7 p.m. those two weeks. We live off South Magee Street and could not go west at 4 p.m., because there were no left turns on County Road 39 from South Magee, nor could we turn right onto Hill Street. Miracle Space-Age Fabrics of the 1980s

I fractured my patella in March. I was skiing in Colorado. As I stood up from the chairlift, the top of my kneecap broke away. Crazy, right? We couldn’t figure out how it happened. One doctor thought my thigh muscles were so strong, they pulled the bone apart. Those millions of squats I’ve done in the past must have given me the quadriceps of 10 men. But can the quadriceps of 10 men break a bone? If so, are they strong enough to lift a car? Lifting a car would be bad-expletive. Since it happened at the top of the ... by Tracy Grathwohl
