By Land or By Sea

There are two types of travelers going/coming to work: those who have jobs at the same location, and those who have jobs that have changing locations (construction trades).

Your comments regarding housing, labor supply and traffic are very interrelated [“WATCH: Local Matters: Southampton Village | Express Sessions,” 27east.com, October 11]. There are certain communities that are easily accessible by water along the Peconic Bay and beyond. Using Sag Harbor as an example, if a ferry from Riverhead or Hampton Bays to Sag Harbor were available, it would be an interesting alternative worthy of a study. Workers who go to the same location would see this as a viable option.

As the owner of the Sag Harbor Inn and other businesses in the village, our employees would have a nice accessible route, as would others. Bus service from Sag Harbor can transfer workers to East Hampton or Bridgehampton.

It’s an idea like the many others … would it work? Hard to say. We love our waterways, and we certainly may be able utilize them in an environmentally sustainable way that remedies our needs.

It is worth consideration, connecting Riverhead and Hampton Bays with Sag Harbor by water.
