The Automated Data Processing Inc. National Employment Report, a measure of private employment in the U.S., reported that payrolls at private employers declined by 32,000 jobs in September. Let’s hope the weakening economy doesn’t impact Southampton Town too negatively.
Given this context, Southampton Town voters will have the option to select two candidates on the November 4 ballot who have experience in economic development. Maria Moore and Tom Neely are familiar with the requirements for job creation and expanding the tax base.
As I walk through Westhampton Beach, I am struck by the town’s renewed energy and vitality. Several new businesses have opened their doors, including Donahue’s East, Ivy on Main, Salt and Loft, Daphne’s, and an expanded Haskell’s Seafood. This surge in new establishments is a testament to the town’s revitalization efforts.
The increase in visitors has brought a noticeable boost to local businesses, with more people drawn to the village’s refreshed atmosphere. The revitalization has not only enhanced the local economy but also fostered a greater sense of community pride.
This transformation was guided by Supervisor Moore, who was mayor at the time. She led the initiative with a focus on smart growth, ensuring that development was both sustainable and beneficial to the broader community. Ms. Moore was instrumental in securing necessary funding, engaging community and colleagues’ support, and bringing in the expertise required to make the project a success. Notably, these efforts were accomplished while also improving water quality, further benefiting the town and its residents.
She deserves a capable partner to make good things happen for other villages and hamlets in Southampton Town.
Equally versed in economic development and smart growth, Tom Neely successfully guided the Southampton Chamber of Commerce.
As president of the Southampton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Neely supported 300 local businesses by organizing events, promoting members, and managing a main street chamber office with a full-time executive director and assistant. He also secured town funding to promote businesses across all four town chambers: Sag Harbor, Southampton, East Quogue and Westhampton Beach.
Tom Neely is the ideal candidate to partner with Supervisor Moore in various revitalizing downtown efforts, bringing hope, energy, and jobs. Voting for them and their Row A team on November 4 is a clear benefit for Southampton Township.
