Catherine Herrmann of Westhampton Beach died on October 4, at the home of her granddaughter, Kym Laube, surrounded by family. She was 90.
Born August 31, 1926, in Brooklyn, she moved to Westhampton Beach with her husband Joseph in the early 70s, where she spent most of her time raising her children and her grandchildren while working at the A&P.
Known to many as “Grandma Kay,” she had seven children, 29 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors said that all who knew her simply referred to her as “Grandma Kay,” and that she considered everyone to be family whether in blood or in spirit. She was known to help strangers and friends alike.
She is survived by her children, Robert Campbell, Joanne Walz, Barbara Griffin, Steven Herrmann, Elizabeth Tancredi, and John Herrmann. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; and a son, Charles.
Visitation was at Follet and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on October 7. A funeral Mass took place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on October 8, followed by a procession down Dune Road to the Westhampton Cemetery.
