Former Bridgehampton resident Deborah J. Mendelsohn died on Friday, August 22, in Washington, DC. She was 39.
A graduate of New York University, she held degrees in biology and nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in several hospitals. Her specialty was neonatal intensive care. Most recently, she worked at Camp Baker in Chesterfield, Virginia, where she was responsible for providing basic health care to more than 400 mentally handicapped children, teens and adults. In addition, she volunteered as a tutor at New York City Public Schools.
According to survivors, between her nursing and volunteer work, she touched countless lives.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Joan and Bob Frasier of Bridgehampton; her father and stepmother, Steve and Pamela Mendelsohn of Maryland; a brother, Josh Mendelsohn and his wife, Wendy, of Florida; three stepsisters, Beth Alvarez and Jennifer Hayes of California and Sarah Cleveland of Massachusetts; two nieces, Jordan and Abby Mendelsohn; and a nephew, Jake Mendelsohn; and a large extended family.
A graveside service was held on August 24 at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Fairview, New Jersey.
