Edna F. Jackson, a resident of East Quogue for 55 years, died at her home on Thursday, April 17, following a long illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Jackson was born in Patchogue on July 2, 1923, to Theodore Foster and Anna Havens. She was raised in Hampton Bays and graduated from Hampton Bays High School and New Paltz State Teachers College. She taught in the Hampton Bays and Cutchogue school districts from 1959 to 1979, and at the East Quogue Elementary School where she taught kindergarten and second grade.
Mrs. Jackson was a life-time parishioner of the East Quogue United Methodist Church and was a member and officer of many organizations and committees affiliated within the church. She was the past treasurer of the East Quogue Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, past secretary and historian of the East Quogue Cemetery Association, the first president of the East Quogue Historical Society, and a member of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society and the East End Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors said this week, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, playing tennis and golf, swimming, and spending time with her family and cat JoJo.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by a son, Southampton Town Parks and Recreation Superintendent Allyn Jackson and his wife Debbie; a brother, Fred Foster and his wife Teresa of Livermore, California; two sisters-in-law, Carol Davis of East Quogue and Helen Foster of Hampton Bays; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Allyson Jackson of East Quogue.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald P. Jackson; and two brothers, Richard H. and Theodore “Teddy” Foster.
A wake was held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Sunday, April 20. The Reverend Larry Dunlap conducted funeral services at the East Quogue United Methodist Church on Monday, April 21; interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in East Quogue.
