Edwin G. Oliver
Edwin G. Oliver of Southampton died at home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, January 28. He was 86.
Born on July 12, 1925, in Huntington, to Anthony B. and Ethel G. Oliver, Mr. Oliver grew up in Oyster Bay and graduated from Oyster Bay High School before joining the U.S. Army 45th Infantry Division, 157th Calvary, and fighting in Germany during World War II. Upon returning from the war, he married and moved to Southampton, where he ran a successful excavating business for more than 50 years and was instrumental in developing several communities in the Southampton area.
Besides being a dedicated father and businessman, he was a proud member of the North Sea Fire Department for 63 years.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his children, Edwin A. Oliver of Hampton Bays, Lois Oliver of Southampton, William Oliver of Southampton, Lorna Oliver of Hampton Bays, and Cynthia Bacon of Southampton; five grandchildren, Nancy and Jennifer Rossetti, Sara and Zachary Bacon, and Ryan Woznick; great-grandchildren Edwin and Emma Carney, and Brett Nieves; and a brother, Kenneth, of Southampton.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Lillian G. Oliver, and his brothers Leonard and Bernard.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A firematic service will be held at the North Sea Fire Department at 8 p.m. on Thursday. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, February 3, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Southampton Cemetery.
