Eileen M. Finlay of Southampton Village died at her home on January 23. She was 85.
Ms. Finlay was born in New York City on June 23, 1930, to John and Lillian (Geib) Galvin. On October 14, 1951, she married Donald J. Finlay, her high school sweetheart, who was then serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were married for 35 years when Mr. Finlay, who at the time was the Southampton Village Police Chief for 25 years, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 55.
Ms. Finlay was a full time homemaker, volunteered her spare time at Southampton Hospital, the Red Cross, the Southampton Nursing Home and at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, where she was also a faithful parishioner. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family, traveling and hosting countless tea parties at her home.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna O’Connor and husband Kevin of Sayville and Marilyn Raynor and husband Scott of Southampton; a son, John Finlay and wife Susan of Florida; two grandsons, Sean O’Connor and Logan Finlay; and a granddaughter, Carley Raynor; a sister-in-law, Rose Clair Galvin of Florida; a brother-in-law, John M. Finlay and wife Cindi of Paris; three nieces, four nephews and many close friends. She was predeceased by a brother, James Galvin.
Visiting hours will be held at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton on Thursday, January 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton on Friday, January 29, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at the church cemetery.
