Estelle Wingfield

Estelle Wingfield of Southampton died on September 10 at University Hospital in Tamarac, Florida. She was 86.

Born May 31, 1924, in Powhatan, Virginia, she was one of five children born to Estelle and Robert Hubbard. She attended public school in Powhatan, moving to New York after graduating from high school. She married Wilbur Wingfield of Southampton and was employed at Southampton Hospital for several years until retiring to be a homemaker.

After accepting the Lord Jesus Christ, she worked faithfully on the Usher Board as a member of First Baptist Church of Southampton under the leadership of Reverend Daniel Batts. Family said this week that to know Estelle was to love her: she was funny, spirited, wise, and a joy to be around, survivors said, adding that she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Billins, Carol and her husband James Bowers, and Barbara and her husband William Walker, all of Florida; a sister, Delia Jones of Brooklyn; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Florence and Albert Brown and Roxanne and Joseph Dozier, all of Southampton; a brother-in-law, Jerry Wingfield of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family received visitors on September 17 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service was held on September 18 at the First Baptist Church of Southampton, followed by interment at Southampton Cemetery.
