Eugene Norman Hubbard Of Quiogue Dies April 26

Eugene Norman Hubbard of Quiogue died on April 26, 2022, just weeks shy of his 95th birthday.

Hubbard was born May 9, 1927, on Quiogue, across the street from where he lived for 68 years in a house he built. He grew up hunting and fishing in the area, often commenting on how it has changed from a slow-moving beach community to its current iteration of resort destination. Survivors said he wandered in the woods on the way home from school during the 1938 Hurricane, he worked his own commercial ocean fishing boat, then turned to the bay for his living, and he owned the Swordfish Beach Club with his father and brother for more than 20 years.

Survivors said many people have many stories about Hubbard, as a boy and a man. He saved many people from drowning, served his country during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, and carried on with a way of life taught to him by his father and his grandfather.

Hubbard is survived by five of his six children; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Margery; daughter Linda, daughter-in-law Rose, and grandson Norman.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Werner Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.

Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, who were on hand in Norfolk with doughnuts at Hubbard’s Navy service discharge.
