Evelyn Bucholz Schunk, formerly of Remsenburg, died at her home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Monday, July 28. She was 90.

Born on January 10, 1918, to Edward and Anna Rissacher Bucholz in Ridgewood, Brooklyn, she was one of the six million women known as “Rosie the Riveter” who worked on airplanes during World War II.

Ms. Bucholz Schunk worked in many local restaurants, including The Patio, The Ambassador Inn, Westhampton Bath and Tennis Club, The Merrick Inn, and the Surf and Sand. She and her husband Charles owned the Trolley Barn in Speonk from 1970 to 1980. After selling it, she continued to work there until she retired at age 75.

According to loved ones, she enjoyed feeding birds, playing solitaire, dancing, gambling and traveling. She traveled the world, including trips to Italy, Greece, Turkey, England, France, Holland, China and Germany. Her favorite trips were to Egypt, where she rode a camel at age 75, and to Las Vegas.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Stinchi of Westhampton Beach and Robin Schunk Martin of Flanders; three sons, Michael and Jeffrey Schunk of South Carolina, and Peter Schunk of Flanders; a brother, Edward Bucholz of Riverhead; nine grandchildren, David Stinchi of East Hampton, Marcus Stinchi of East Quogue, Dacia DiBiase and Cayne Poplaski of North Carolina, Kayla and Devin Schunk of Flanders, Maija and Troy Polsley of New York, and Samantha Schunk of South Carolina; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; and a brother, George.

A memorial service for Mrs. Bucholz Schunk will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, New York 11978 would be appreciated by the family.
