Former Southampton resident Elizabeth Murray died on March 11 at a hospital in Denver, Colorado, following a brief illness. Fondly known as “Liz,” she was 79.
Born March 20, 1930 in Brooklyn to the late Jeanne D. and John F. Murray, her grandfather was the inventor Thomas E. Murray. She grew up in Brooklyn and Manhattan, graduating from Suffern Academy in Suffern, New York. A photographer, she spent her childhood summers in Southampton. Following the death of her husband, newspaperman Frank Conniff, in 1972, she moved to the Village of Southampton, where some of her children attended Southampton schools until she left in 1977.
She is survived by her three sons, Tony Conniff of New York City, Rex Conniff and Michael Conniff, both of Colorado, and Frank Conniff of California; a daughter Lucy Conniff of New York City; and three grandchildren, Max, Emma, and Asher. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, John Conniff, and a granddaughter, Shawn Conniff.
