Frank Jenkins

Frank Jenkins of Bridghampton died on December 27 at Southampton Hospital. He was 72.

Born May 19, 1938, in Ruffin, South Carolina, to Clee Boatright and Fontella Jenkins, he moved to Bridgehampton in 1955 and met Bertha Gholson; they married on December 24, 1960.

According to family, Mr. Jenkins imparted a legacy of Godly wisdom to his family and friends. A humanitarian throughout his life, he would always lend a hand no matter what needed to be done and was instrumental in the early construction of the First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton. Family said last week that he left them with the most valuable gift any husband and parent could: the wisdom of standing on the promises of God.

He is survived by his wife Bertha Jenkins of Bridgehampton; three daughters, Lisa Jenkins and Penny Walker and her husband Minister Jerome Walker, all of Bridehampton, and Shaquanna Hale and her husband Robert Hale of Georgia; four sons, Thomas Jenkins, Brian Jenkins, Willie Jenkins and Joseph Jenkins, all of Bridgehampton; three sisters, Margie Lucas, Pernise Jones and Bobbie Shirley Forbes; two brothers, Vernon Jenkins and Robert Lee Jenkins; two sisters-in-law, Marthann Jenkins and Daisy Jenkins; 12 grandchildren, Shajalas, Akilah, Dominique, Brandon, Jerome Jr., Leisha, Michael, Isaiah, Autumn, Aries, Joshua and Josiah; two great-grandchildren, Mia and Kaiden; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by a son, Frank Jr.; three sisters, Eulabell Jenkins, Loraine Williams and Mary Jenkins; and two brothers, James and Jake Jenkins.

Services were held on January 3 at the First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton. The Reverend Frank Bryant officiated at the service and the Reverend Henry Faison Jr. delivered the eulogy. Interment followed at Edgewood Cemetery in Bridgehampton. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
