Southampton native Helen (née Quinlan) Hubbard Downes died on May 4 at her home in Hamilton, New Jersey. She was 74.
Born in Southampton to Ruth (née Fanning) and Joseph W. Quinlan, she lived here for 70 years before moving to New Jersey to live with her son, John F. Hubbard.
A home health aide for many years, Mrs. Downes was remembered by her family this week as a devoted caregiver to her family and many friends.
In addition to her son, John, she is survived by a stepson, William W. Downes of California; a stepdaughter, Martha Kimball of California; a step-granddaughter, Lauren Kimball of Washington; two nephews, Kevin J. Quinlan and Keith W. Quinlan of New Jersey; and two nieces, Colleen (née Quinlan) Whitehad of North Carolina and Kathleen (née Quinlan) Robinson of New Hampshire.
She was predeceased by her first husband, William S. Hubbard, and her second husband, William J. Downes, both of Southampton; a brother, William J. Quinlan; and two sons, Craig A. Hubbard and William S. Hubbard.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
