Iris Marie Peiffer
Former Southampton resident Iris Marie Peiffer died on September 6 at Odyssey House in Conroe, Texas, after a month-long struggle with cancer. She was 85.
Born on July 21, 1925, in Merchantville, New Jersey, she was the daughter of William Oscar and Lola (née Thompson) Johnson. She married Jacob Peiffer in 1950 and she and her husband raised their family in Southampton for 30 years before moving to Conroe.
Family members said this week that Mrs. Peiffer loved to volunteer at her church, in the elementary school and at the library. She also loved to read, travel and attend her water aerobics class. She will be remembered, they said, as a person who helped others, who enjoyed and cared deeply for friends and family, and who faithfully lived her life with courage and hope.
Predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Jacob, she is survived by a younger sister, Shirley Hancock of Homosassa, Florida; and two sons, Steven and his wife Sheila of Goshen, New York, and Jeffrey and his wife MaryBeth, of Conroe, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held on September 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Conroe.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the First United Methodist Church in Conroe or Odyssey Vista Care Hospice Foundation, Suite 1500, 717 North Harwood Street, Dallas, TX 75201 would be appreciated by the family.
