James “Jim” Henry Robinson died at his home in Southampton on March 3 of natural causes. He was 89.
Born July 10, 1919, he was the youngest son of John George Robinson and Annie Augusta Fordham Robinson. He attended Southampton Public Schools through the sixth grade before moving to New York City. While living in the city, he was involved in projects organized by the National Youth Administration and the Works Progress Administration.
He worked various jobs in New York City as a custodian and elevator operator until the 1950s, at which time he returned to Southampton. For many years, he was caretaker of the family’s properties in Southampton and Riverhead. In his later years, he was employed by John Duck’s Restaurant as a maintenance worker, a job he held for 25 years.
He is survived by four nephews, David Phillips of Southampton, Roger Phillips and his wife Lynn of Water Mill, Douglas Phillips of Southampton, and Howard Phillips and his wife Sharon of Ohio; and many second- and third-generation nieces and nephews.
A sister, Annie Robinson Phillips predeceased him in 1991.
A private graveside service conducted by the Reverend Ronald Hammond was held on March 5 at the Southampton Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home, Inc.
